As a professional headshot photographer in Asheville, NC, I aim to keep it simple. When someone first gets in front of my camera, I let them know that their responsibility is to start out and Do Nothing but respond. Do not try to figure it out. I want you to stay in the moment and respond to my suggestions without thinking. I avoid giving directions that are result-orientated, such as “act happy,” “look professional,” or look like you are “having fun.” It’s more like, “You just hit the lottery for $50,000,000.” Easy to respond to if you’re in the moment and not trying to figure it out. This type of direction works in almost any kind of people photography, from headshots to weddings. Having been an actor for many years and getting direction from professionals, I know how to move you in the right direction to get your headshots to work for you.
